About Eilat

Eilat, auch Elat oder Elath – bei Graetz und in der älteren deutschen Literatur Ailat genannt – ist eine Hafenstadt an der Südspitze Israels. Die am Golf von Akaba im Süden der Wüste Negev gelegene Stadt ist der einzige Zugang Israels zum Roten Meer und damit zum Indischen Ozean. Die Länge des israelischen Küstenabschnitts beträgt knapp zwölf Kilometer. Vom Hafen sind bei guter Sicht die Küsten Ägyptens, Jordaniens und Saudi-Arabiens zu sehen.
